Volunteer for our Galas - please!
We need volunteers!
We can't put it any clearer - for our internal galas to go ahead we need volunteer parents - and a lot of them!
We need them becuase we license our galas with the ASA - which means we have to have a certain number of people helping. Being a licensed gala means that the times your swimmer achieves will be on the ASA website - and can be used when entering Open Meets elsewhere.
The most common job that we need help with is as a Timekeeper. You've seen them - standing at the end of the pool, stopwatch in hand - timing each swimmer. Time noted onto a slip of paper and handed to someone else. Job done!
Its a great job: Easy to do - and you get a brilliant view of the swimming (and of course you don't pay as a spectator)!
Don't worry if you've not done it before - you'll always be with at least one other experienced person... and if we get enough volunteers there are three people on every lane. This allows things to run nice and fast. But with three parents on each lane - that's 18 parent volunteers right there!
What do I need to bring as a Timekeeper?
Very little! If you can do the following - brilliant! But we're just happy to have you!
- If you have a stopwatch - please bring it. That would be really helpful. But if you don't - not to worry - we have spares.
- Do print a copy of the programme and bring that with you. We don't print copies for spectators at our galas, so there won't be many spares floating around.
- Bring a clipboard - its so much easier!
- A pen!
If you can volunteer for ANY of our internal galas - whether as a timekeeper, a poolside official, a recorder, announcer, runner, drink-runner etc - please do. Without volunteering parents the club wouldn't exist!
As a thank you - Susan Godwin always organises a volunteers raffle where every volunteer is automatically entered! You could win a small prize as a thank you!
Please let Tasmin Potter know of your availability for each gala - click here to email them know - and sign up for our next gala!
If you've got any questions about what's required - please ask Tasmin Potter - or Susan Godwin, or any of the other familiar faces you see in blue or white T shirts!
